Maintenance & Care
How to Keep your Gear REDI...
Your upland gear was designed and made with the highest quality materials sourced from across the U.S. It takes a beating from the elements, carries serious loads, and stands up to the most rugged conditions. Keeping gear clean and maintained ensures it lasts longer, improves performance, and protects your investment.

FADING & FIBER PROTECTION
(For UV and Water Resistance)
Sun, rain, and liquids will break down any outdoor gear over time — especially fabric based products. To extend your gear’s life and performance, applying a protective coating is a smart move. These coatings help restore water repellency and shield from UV damage, keeping gear stronger for longer.
NOTE: I do not warranty color fading as it heavily depends upon the treatment and proactive maintenance of your gear. Follow the instructions below to greatly reduce the risk and maintain your investment for many years of quality use in the field.
Here’s how to do it the right way.
What You’ll Need
-
Protective spray or treatment - we recommend a UV + waterproof combo spray - e.g., Nikwax TX.Direct®, Scotchgard™ Outdoor, Gear Aid Revivex®, Nikwax Tent & Gear SolarProof®, 303 Aerospace Protectant®, etc
-
Clean gear (lightly washed and completely dry)
-
Soft brush or cloth (for prep)
-
Well-ventilated area (preferably outdoors)
-
Gloves (optional)
Step-by-Step: Applying Protective Coatings
1. Start with Clean Gear
-
Wash and rinse your gear thoroughly with mild soap and water (see detailed washing instructions below)
-
Let it dry completely before applying any coating — moisture can prevent proper bonding.
2. Apply the Coating Evenly
-
Shake the bottle well.
-
Hold spray bottle about 6–8 inches from the fabric.
-
Spray evenly across the surface, slightly overlapping as you go.
-
For liquid treatments, apply with a cloth or sponge per the manufacturer’s instructions.
3. Let It Soak In
-
Wait a few minutes after application. Let the fabric absorb the treatment.
-
For heavy-duty protection, apply a second coat after the first has set (optional).
4. Air Dry Fully
-
Let gear dry completely in a shaded, ventilated area.
-
Avoid direct sunlight or high heat while the coating sets.
Tips & Warnings
-
Always test the product on a small hidden area first to check for discoloration.
-
Avoid coatings with silicone unless specifically designed for your gear type.
-
Don’t use near open flames or heat sources. Many sprays are flammable until dry.
-
Read the manufacturer’s label for reapplication frequency — typically every few months or after heavy use.

WASHING & CLEANING
Fortunately, Hunt Redi gear can be cleaned easily with just mild soap and water. Here’s a simple step-by-step guide for spot cleaning or soaking your Hunt Redi gear the right way.
What You’ll Need
-
Mild soap (e.g., dish soap like Dawn, or specialty outdoor gear wash)
-
Soft cloth or sponge
-
Soft-bristle brush (optional)
-
Bucket or sink with warm water
-
Area to air dry
-
Clean water for rinsing
Spot Cleaning Method (For Small Stains or Light Dirt)
-
Mix Your Cleaning Solution
Combine a small amount of mild soap with warm water. -
Dampen the Cloth or Sponge
Dip it into the solution and wring out excess water. -
Gently Scrub the Dirty Area
Rub the spot with your cloth or sponge. Use a soft brush for tougher dirt — but avoid scrubbing too hard to prevent damaging fabric or colors. -
Rinse with Clean Water
Use a clean damp cloth or sponge to wipe away soap residue. -
Air Dry Thoroughly
Hang your gear in a shaded, well-ventilated area to dry completely before storing it.
Soaking Method (For Deeper Cleaning or Large Areas)
-
Prepare the Cleaning Solution
Fill a tub, sink, or large container with warm water. Add a few drops of mild soap and mix gently. -
Submerge the Gear
Place the gear in the soapy water and let it soak for 10–30 minutes depending on how dirty it is.
-
Gently Agitate
Use your hands to move the gear around, loosening dirt and grime.
-
Rinse Well
Drain the soapy water and rinse the gear thoroughly with clean water to remove all soap residue. -
Dry Properly
Lay flat or hang to air dry in a shaded area. Avoid direct sunlight or heat sources that can damage materials.
Warnings
-
Do NOT machine wash.
-
Air Dry ONLY.
-
Avoid harsh detergents or bleach — they can damage colors, water resistant coatings, and fabric fibers.
- Store gear only when fully dry to prevent mold, odors, and fabric deterioration.
